Today is the one year anniversary since my friend Clare died from melanoma, but leaving a footprint in the lives of those who listened to her dying pleads that tans are not worth your life.

My friend Clare Oliver died at 8am this morning. Thanks to the media sensation that she had become over the past few weeks I found out through 3aw (radio station) just after 9am. I expected that I would find out through the media. The consolation was that I didn't find out directly from them; my dad heard and came in to me and told me.

She may be gone, but don't forget SUNBEDS KILL just as much as the sun's rays do! In my opinion, a tan is never worth the pain and heartache of having your life taken too early: eaten away from within you through cancer. Don't be a bloody idiot and increase the risks. Be pale. Make pale cool.

For some they will never reach such an age (RIP Kell); for some it's just yet another birthday; but for you, Clare, it's a mighty accomplishment that ends this amazing week of change that you instigated with your interview on The 7:30 Report on Monday night. Who could've foreshadowed that it would become so big and your perceived small contribution (only by you; everyone else hears your big and important message) would make such an almightly impact that will leave a legacy for all, even after you die. You have truly touched more people that you will ever know and made a massive difference in the world for the better. You are truly special.
